PS#009: New Year’s Goals
Happy New Year’s Eve!
I hope you’ve been able to unplug and spend some time with loved ones this past week.
Venture, like most of life, can get pretty chaotic. It’s important to take the time to refresh so that you can come back even stronger in the new year.
With this issue of Preferred Shares, I wanted to do two things…
Reflect on 2022
Set goals for 2023
Let’s dive in.
In 2022, I took the leap.
This was a big year for me.
It was the year I formally launched Sand Hill Prep, Preferred Shares, and my broader efforts to help teach the unwritten rules of venture capital.
For those who don’t know, prior to launching Sand Hill Prep, I was teaching a version of this course with small groups of students at UC Berkeley. After a lot of feedback and encouragement from those students, I decided to take the leap and share it more broadly.
Honestly, I could have never imagined the community that would build around it.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many talented individuals. Many of the students from this class have gone on to find roles in venture with firms like fika, The Westly Group, Space Capital, Blue Bear Capital, and many more.
It’s been amazing.
I’m incredibly grateful for all those individuals who encouraged, supported, and pushed me to share my journey. I know this hasn’t been perfect, but I hope it’s been useful.
My goal in 2022 was to provide real, tactical value for those looking to break into venture capital.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to provide even more in 2023.
In 2023, I want to share more and go deeper.
I feel like I’m just scratching the surface.
I think there is so much more that I can share from my experiences in venture capital.
The more I look around, the more I’m convinced that venture doesn’t need to be a “black box” of insider knowledge.
With that, my goal for this year is to be more intentional about the knowledge I share with you. I want to continue my mission of helping individuals break into venture capital and preparing them to succeed in the role.
That starts by listening.
So, this is my ask of you…
Please keep sending me your questions.
Send me the topics that you’d like covered. I’ve got a great list to start the year, but please keep sending your suggestions.
The more I listen, the more I can build my content to fit your needs.
Finally, a BIG thank you to all of you!
Thank you.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this effort.
Without all of you, we wouldn’t have this great community.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year’s! Here’s to 2023!
